Pete Bethune’S Legal Trial Set To Begin In Japan | 7×7

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 26, 2010

The criminal trial against Sea Shepherd Conservation Society volunteer Pete Bethune begins in Tokyo on May 27. Bethune was arrested in March and he remains in detention in Tokyo. He was arrested after boarding the Japanese whaling vessel Shonan Maru 2 in February to protest the sinking of Sea Shepherds vessel, the ADY GIL and Japans illegal whaling. He faces trial charges, including trespassing and property damage.

According to Sea Shepherd, Bethune boarded the Shonan Maru 2 to present the captain of that vessel with a three million dollar invoice for damages arising from the Shonan Maru 2s destruction of the vessel ADY GIL, on which Bethune was captain. Bethune also boarded the vessel in an effort to stop it from slaughtering more whales. Bethunes boarding did cause the Shonan Maru 2 to withdraw from the whale kill.

Sea Shepherds Seattle based law firm, Harris & Moure, will have two of its lawyers in Tokyo during the trial to assist Mr. Bethunes Japanese defense team and to explain Sea Shepherds position on Mr. Bethunes trial and on Japans illegal whaling operations. Harris & Moures Managing Partner, Dan Harris, will be available in Tokyo for media questions beginning on May 26 and throughout the trial.

Steve Dickinson, who heads Harris & Moures Asia practice out of Qingdao, China, will be at the trial both as a translator and as a liaison to Sea Shepherd in the United States. Mr. Dickinson began his legal career with a prominent Tokyo law firm and he is fluent in Japanese.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is a US 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that engages in direct action to prevent illegal whaling and fishing. More information on the Society can be found at www.seashepherd.org. Harris & Moure has a long history of handling maritime matters in Asia, including Japan. Sarah Palin At ‘Restoring Honor’ Rally: ‘We Should Restore America …

[...] Radio and television personality Glenn Beck today hosted hundreds of thousands of rallying citizens from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. In what was an amazingly apolitical rally, Beck and his fellow speakers focused on three themes: faith, hope, and charity.

The event, billed by its organizers “Restoring Honor,” harkened back to revered American leaders, from the Founding Fathers to Martin Luther King Jr., and religious figures, particularly Moses, whom he continuously referred to as “the man with the stick and burning bush.”

Offering a grim picture of where the country is today, while refraining from critiquing specific politicians or even particular policies, Beck hit a hopeful pitch, urging his minions to be more like the great Americans and religious figures he praised.

“Do we no longer believe in the individual, and the power of one individual?” Beck demanded. “No!” the crowd adamantly answered. “One man can change the world. That individual is you!”

[...] The rally coincided with the day of Reverend Martin Luther King’s 1963 March on Washington. And many speakers, including Beck himself paid tribute to the civil rights leader who altered the course of American history through his peaceful civil disobedience and belief in God. Perhaps King’s most memorable speech, the “I Have A Dream” address, was delivered, also, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

King’s niece Alveda took the stage, in a move that will surely draw ire from Beck’s critics.

King thanked Beck for organizing this rally and “focus[ing] on honor and the content of our character, and not the color of our skin.” “The greatness of Martin Luther King was the faith he had in the American people,” Beck said. (More)

Ufc 118 Preview: B.j. Penn, Frankie Edgar Collide In Ufc …

Edgar_penn_medium In the UFC 118 main event, newly-crowned UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (12-1, 7-1 UFC) will have the unpleasant task of battling former UFC Lightweight champion B.J. Penn (15-6-1, 11-5-1 UFC) in a rematch of their UFC 112 battle that saw Edgar win via judges decision (50-45, 49-46, 48-47). The controversy surrounding the title tilt stems from the scoring of the fight, and many fans felt B.J. Penn landed the more solid punches and edged out Edgar in the end. Unbelievably, two of the judges didn’t feel the fight was as close as everyone else believed. Judge Douglas Crosby actually scored the contest in favor of Edgar, 50-45, giving him all five rounds. Some might believe it was just idiocy, but it takes a special kind of ignorance to turn that kind of score in for a fight in which Penn clearly won at least two rounds.

I’m not going to delve into the historical aspects of both fighters because this fight already has a blueprint. The first encounter at UFC 112 was exactly as many fans expected it. Penn used his remarkably fast straight punches and a jab to pepper Edgar over the course of five rounds while Edgar tried to work a similar gameplan. Edgar’s movement was very good, and the fact that he looked like the much busier fighter may have been a reason why he was favored by the judges. This isn’t to say that Edgar wasn’t effective either.

Edgar’s footwork and speed was his best asset in the showdown, but Penn’s timing was the biggest key to his success in the early rounds at UFC 112. In the later rounds, Penn began to tire, and Edgar seemed to be running at the same pace as he was when he stepped into the cage. Edgar managed to gain a takedown or two late in the fight against the somewhat tired Penn, and perhaps that secured the fight for Edgar. Unfortunately, many fans, including, myself didn’t see it that way.

Let’s make this brief and to the point. What can we expect this time that may be different? Reports in the post-fight were that Penn was possibly suffering from a sinus infection or was ill. While people generally scoff at excuses, it’s a significant blow to any fighter’s ability to fight for five rounds if your airway is partially blocked. If that was the case, we can expect Penn to be better conditioned for this fight.

The actual match-up will more than likely follow the same blueprint as last time. Penn will try to time Edgar, pepper him with blows, and knock his block off when the opportunity presents itself. Edgar will aim to box with Penn, moving in and out of danger quickly in order to avoid Penn’s power. The question is whether Edgar gained a little confidence from the takedowns in the first fight, and will that confidence cause him to abandon the gameplan that helped him win a title. I would think not, and Penn’s ground ability would put Edgar in a world of danger if he tried to bring the fight to the ground.

I expect the same fight we saw at UFC 112 with the exception that Penn will win. If Penn can maintain his strength and speed over five rounds, he should have his belt back. Edgar’s defense and speed are great assets, but it was evident that Penn was able to time his move in, move out motion at UFC 112. Instead of going with what I truly expect in a decision win for Penn, I’m going to bank on Penn landing a bomb inside five rounds. Edgar is going to be successful for a bit in this fight, but Penn will find his timing, land a chin breaker as Edgar moves in, and drop the champion.

Thomas Becket | 12 News

Thomas Becket was born C. 1118 in Cheapside, London, Gilbert Becket of Thierville and Matilda (with a familiar name Roheise or Rosa) from Mondeville in Caen . Gilbert, the son of a knight, took trade in silk and velvet, and in London property owner, residing in its rent. They were buried in the cathedral of Old St. Pauls. There is a story that Thomass mother was a princess Saracens who met and fell in love with his English father while he was on a crusade or a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and then to his home, was baptized and married him. This story is not true he was a producer of the three centuries after the martyrdom of the saint and inserted as a forgery in the modern (Edward Grim in 12 century) Life of St. Thomas.

One of the wealthy father of Thomas friends, Richer de LAigle, was attracted to the sister of Thomas. He often invited Thomas to his estates in Sussex. There, Thomas learned to ride a horse, hunt, behave like a gentleman, and participate in popular sports such as jousting. Beginning when he was 10, Becket received an excellent education in civil and canon law at Merton Priory in England, and then in Paris, Bologna and Auxerre. Richer subsequently signed by the constitutions of Clarendon against Thomas.

Upon his return to England, he attracted the attention of Theobald, Archbishop of Canterbury, who entrusted him with several important missions to Rome and finally made him Archdeacon of Canterbury, and rector Beverly. He distinguished himself by his zeal and efficiency that Theobald recommended him to King Henry II, when the important office of Lord Chancellor was vacant. Henry appointed Becket as Chancellor in 1155.

Henry wanted to be the absolute ruler of his kingdom, the Church and State, and could find no precedents in the traditions of the throne, when he intends to end the special privileges of English clergy, which he regarded as fetters on his authority. As Chancellor, Becket enforced the king of the traditional medieval land tax that was exacted from all landowners, including churches and dioceses. This creates difficulties as discontent Becket among the English clergy. To further involvement Becket as a secular man, he experienced courtier, and an extravagant and hilarious companion to the pleasures of the king. Thomas was devoted to the interests of Henry so firm and yet diplomatic thoroughness that scarcely anyone, except perhaps John of Salisbury doubted his loyalty to the English royalty.

King Henry even sent his son Henry to live in the household Becket, it is the custom then for noble children need to develop linkages with other noble houses. Henry was reported to have said Becket showed him more fatherly love in a day than his father all his life. Emotional attachment to Becket as a foster father may have been one of the reasons the young Henry would turn against his father.

Thomas Becket, later also known as Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his assassination in 1170. He is venerated as a saint and martyr by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church. He has been involved in the conflict with King Henry II of England over the rights and privileges of the church and was killed by supporters of the king in Canterbury Cathedral. Soon after the death of Thomas Becket, Pope Alexander canonized him and killed the priest was elevated to sainthood.

The monks were afraid that Beckets body might be stolen. To prevent this from happening, Becket continued to be placed under the floor of the eastern crypt of the cathedral. Stone cover was placed on the grave with two holes, where the pilgrims could insert her head and kissed the coffin, this arrangement is shown in the Miracle of Windows Trinity Chapel. Bodyguards House (now the wax chamber) had a clear idea of the grave. In 1220, the bones Becket had been transferred to the new gilded and decorated with precious stones for the temple altar in the chapel of the Trinity. The shrine has been supported by three pairs of columns, located on a hill in three stages. This can be illustrated in one of the windows of a miracle. Canterbury, because of its religious history, has always saw a large number of pilgrims. Nevertheless, after the death of Thomas Becket, the number of pilgrims visiting the city grew rapidly.

1282977854 98 Richard Ramirez

Ricardo Munoz Ramirez was born on February 29th 1960 in El Paso, Texas. He is the fifth child of hard working Mexican immigrants and was diagnosed with epilepsy and suffered from seizures since the age of six.

Drug use and Satanism

Richard witnessed his cousin murder his own wife before his eyes. He became deeper involved in drugs and petty crime and dropped out of school. his passions were drugs and candy, one led to rotten teeth and halitosis, and the other to more advanced crimes to support his habits.

Richard was arrested several times on drug-possession related charges and his demeanor began to change and his crimes and fantasies began to spiral toward more serious offenses and deeper and harder drug use and Satanism. when Richard was 18 he decided to move to Los Angeles.

Satan Worshiper and Serial Killer

Richard began to further explore his interests in Satan worship. He began dressing in all black and maintained a haggard appearance to further emphasize his dark beliefs and he recognized that his appearance intimidated people and he enjoyed that.

He became an accomplished burglar but began lingering in the homes he robbed and eventually surrendered to the urge to kill. In June of 1984 he murdered an elderly woman and discovered the act of killing stirred sexual feelings inside that prompted him to commit acts of necrophilia.

His next several attacks, which started in March of 1985, were random and included the shooting and robbery of a couple, the murder of a women in her car, and the killing of an eight-year old girl several days later.

A Killers Calling Card

Ramirez became further enamored of the terror he had created and of the name the media had given him The Night Stalker. his crimes began to take on a more sinister air and he started leaving demonic symbols and pentagrams at the scenes of his crimes to denote his worship of Satan and routinely began to mutilate the bodies of his victims.

Forensic Evidence

Ramirez started getting sloppy and several of his intended victims survived to provide the cops with descriptions of him and clues began to surface including foot imprints and finger prints left from a abandoned stolen car he had used in one of his crimes.

Richard continued his reign of terror throughout the summer, but by August of 1985 the police knew the identity of The Night Stalker and were stalking him. his photo was distributed to the public and Richard was a marked man.

The Serial Killer Is Caught

On August 30th Richard was spotted by a civilian who recognized him from his heavily circulated picture. He panicked and fled on foot to the East side of Los Angeles where he unsuccessfully tried to steal a car from the driveway of a man who was underneath the vehicle.

The car owner gave chase and soon the word spread that The Night Stalker was loose in the neighborhood and a small mob of people formed and pursued Ramirez. several Hispanic males tackled and beat Richard and held him captive until the police arrived to rescue him.

The Death Toll

Ramirezs romp of death and destruction was finally over but he had left behind fourteen dead victims and several traumatized survivors. He had committed fourteen counts of first-degree murder, numerous counts of burglary, rape and sodomy. He had mutilated corpses and performed acts of necrophilia.

Richard claimed his acts of psychopathic butchery were performed to glorify Satan. He maintained this demonic demeanor throughout his trial chanting evil slogans and wearing blacks clothes and dark sunglasses.

The Night Stalkers Fate

As expected the trial of Richard Ramirez was a circus and lasted over four years with endless appeals and groupies who admired him flocking to the courthouse whenever trial was in session.

In the end The Night Stalker got the death penalty on September, 20th 1989 for his crimes but currently is awaiting execution in California on death row at San Quentin Prison. He has never shown the least bit of remorse or regret for his crimes and was even allowed to marry one of his groupies, Doreen Lioy, in 1996.
